Lions Counselor
Betty Newell was born and raised in Arcola, MS. Her road to academic success began when she
graduated from Simmons High School in 1988. She completed her associate’s degree in computer
information system from MS Delta Community College. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Business
Administration from Delta State University, her master’s degree in counseling education from Delta State
University, and her education specialist’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Nova Southeastern
University. She graduated from the National Institute of School Leaders and received her certification to
become a certified school administrator.
Ms. Newell is completing her 24 th year as an educator. She began her educational career in the
Leland School District as a Business Computer Technology teacher. In 2005, she returned home to the
Hollandale School District as a Business Education Teacher at Simmons High School. After becoming a
Certified Professional School Counselor, she was transferred to that position in 2009. She has worked in
that capacity for the last 14 years in the Hollandale School District, West Bolivar County School District and
Tunica County School District. Since her tenure in Tunica, she has become a National Certified School
Counselor.
